Langtang Trekking

Langtang trekking is a most peaceful and unique trek route in Nepal. Trekking in Langtang region is easily accessible from Kathmandu offering a massive of trekking destinations, all available without flights. Straight north from Kathmandu is the Langtang- Helambu region, just south of the Tibetan border exploring the soaring snow-covered peaks, a gentle climate, and hospitable inhabitants. Usually, Langtang trekking is less trekked than the Annapurna or Everest region, so the route and area are more silent and discovery. Langtang Gosainkunda  Helambu trek journey goes through traditional, ethnic villages and untouched forests offering pine forest, swift mountain streams, rugged rock, snow-capped peaks, grassy downs, and meadows are strewn, daises and wild animals along with some scared Lakes.

Most of this region falls into Langtang National Park hosting a variety of natural splendors, from lush valleys alive with Langur monkeys to the towering fir and rhododendron forests bursting with spring color. There is a surprising amount of old-growth wood: chir pine, rhododendron, alder and deciduous conifers.

Plants like rhododendrons, larch, wildflowers, gentians, primroses, epiphytic orchids, etc. are abundantly found in the area. 1000 species of flora and many wild animals such as Tigers, wild boar, red panda, pica, musk deer, Himalayan black bear, Himalayan Thar (wild goat), rhesus monkey, common Langur, snow leopard, rare Himalayan wildlife and including hawks, hoopoe, cuckoos, barbets, owls, nightjars, laughing thrushes, black-capped sibias, Red-billed, parakeets etc. more than 250 species of birds are main attraction for the Langtang Trekking region. These diverse animated birds are more easily seen as they often congregate in large, loud foraging parties.

The Langtang trekking region is sandwiched between the significant Himalayan range to the north and a range of gigantic peaks to the south. The Langtang and Ganesh Himal mountain ranges including Langtang Lirung (7246m), Gang Chhenpo (6388m), Naya Kangri (5846m), Yala peak (5700m) and Dorji Lhakpa (6966m) are few peaks to mention. Langtang valley is populated by Sherpa and Tamang families and offers splendid varieties of natural and cultural diversity.

The Tamang are the principal inhabitants of the region whose religious practice, language, and dress-up are much more similar to the Tibetans. The craftsmanship, traditionally built stone houses, windows, beautifully carved wooden porches and Gompas of architectural masterpiece reflect the solitude and the serenity of the Himalayan scenery. Langtang area has over 70 glaciers of varying sizes and holy lakes; including Gosaikunda, Parvatikunda, Bhairavkunda, Dudhkunda, etc. religious serene of Hindus and Buddhists.

In short, Langtang trek is one of the best trekking destinations for all those who enjoy the natural landscape and distinct cultural practices along with biodiversity. The region is famous for its culture, religion and a splendid Himalaya range, beautiful waterfalls, and green forests. The good news is that Langtang and Helambu are logistically easy- no special permits, few altitude hassles, descents tea houses along with long bus drives, and some camping experiences.

Langtang valley trek, Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu trek, GanjaLa Pass trek, etc. are popular treks in Langtang region. Among Nepal’s most spectacular treks, this is one not to rush and have full enjoyments with close up views of mountains, ancient culture and diverse biology passing through some of the stunning scenery and lakes of the heavenly country Nepal.
