Shivapuri is the nearby hill of Kathmandu and it lies at an altitude of 2563 m north of Kathmandu. After Phulchwoki this is another highest hill around Kathmandu valley. It is at the source of the holy river Bagmati, and it is also the source of significant water supply to the Kathmandu valleys, increasing the population. First, we take a short drive toward the Budhanilkantha Temple from where the hiking begins. The temples with the most prominent statue of Lord Vishnu sleeping in the ocean bed. which lies 8 km north of Kathmandu. After having breakfast, drive for about 1-1.5 hrs to Sankhu. Sankhu is medieval Newar village which is major pilgrimage center for Hindus. The temple of Vajrajogini is situated here where a big mela is organized for one month.

People keep fasting and worship here leaving their home for one month here in the name of goddess Parvati.
