 Thorong La Pass is a mountain pass with an altitude of 5,416m (17,769 ft) from sea level. It lies on the northern side of the Annapurna region. Thorong La Pass Trek is one of the exciting and enjoyable treks in Nepal

Thorong La Pass Trek passes through the path which joins Manang and Manang village. It is one of the best trekking places for trekkers in Nepal. Khatung Kang and Yakawa Kang are the mountains that form Thorong la pass. Throng La pass is also considered as one of the world’s highest pass.

You will be thrilled to see the beauty of the Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, Dhaulagiri, Fishtail, Manaslu, Gangapurna, Tilicho peak, Tukuche Peak, and many other mountains. This trek starts from low elevation and slowly gains the height. The trail is at the distance of at least 200m from Manang valley. While going through the Thorong La pass, you will see Buddhist monasteries, Chame, Pisang, and Manang.

Thorong la pass Trekking touches the edge of the Tibetan plateau. The length of the Thorong la pass is 160-230 km (100-145 mi). Thorong la pass trip starts from Beshisahar to Thorong valley. You will observe the stunning view of the beautiful mountains and landscape.

When you will reach Yak Kharka, you will see the magnificent view of chulu west and thorong phedi. You should be highly prepared for this trek frequent change in weather with high winds can occur. The range high viewpoint camp is located in between moraine slopes and Yakwakang. However, the route to the thrang high viewpoint camp can steep and rugged. Mostly Gurung and Sherpa people live there. The lifestyle of the people there is so simple. You will find most of the people are involved in agriculture and yak farming. As Thorong is near to Tibet, people use yak for importing salts. The best months to trek to Thorong la pass is May to March and September to November. The route to Thorong la pass goes through the beautiful paddy field, landscape several waterfalls, and huge rock face overhangs. You will also see the subtropical forest along the trail. The Tibetan valley was so beautiful with their hand-carved houses. The Tibetan flag is all over the trekking route.

They write in script on the flags. You will be enjoying the desert-like plateau throughout the way. The subtropical forests are full of medicinal herbs like Panchamle and pathways. Form recent years, many constructional activities are being done along the trail. So you will not face many problems while trekking and you can enjoy this trip to the fullest.

Brief Itinerary
Here is the brief itinerary of your trip to Thorong La Pass Trek. This trip will probably be one of the best treks you have done in your entire life. Here is the list of things that you will be doing on your trip.

Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu
As your trip starts from Kathmandu, you will have to reach Kathmandu first. You will be staying at the hotel in Kathmandu. After taking some rest, you can roam around the famous streets of Kathmandu, such as Thamel, IndraChowk. As this city is rich in ancient culture, you may want to go to some cultural places too. Visiting Pashupatinath and Bouddhanath will be the best option if you have an additional day.

Have a typical Nepali dinner at night and overnight in a deluxe hotel.

Day 2: Kathmandu to Besi Sahar
Total Distance: 200KM,
Trekking Duration: 4-5 hours by tourist bus
Besi Sahar is located at the altitude of 1422m above the sea level and a distance of 15km away from Kathmandu. It takes at least 4 hours to reach Besisahar from Kathmandu. You will find the checkpoint at Besisahar, where you have to show the permit. After walking 2km from Besisahar, you will reach Bulbule at Ghermu. There is a small beautiful village. The village is full of greenery with the mesmerizing view of the mountain, terrace farming, and the view of breathtaking waterfalls.
Enjoy the day and overnight at Lodges at Ghermu.

Day 3: Trek from Ghermu to Tal
The next day of the trip starts from Ghermu to Tal, which is situated at the altitude of 1633m. After walking for 6 hours, you will reach Tal. You will have a fantastic hike on the beautiful landscape through the Jagat village. From the Tal, you will walk to the trail along DudhKholariver. After having some ascends, you will reach to Tal, which is also called the first village of Manang. The scenery of the mountains on the way to Tal is bizarre formation supported by the river at the bottom.

Day 4: Trip from Tal to Bagarchhap
The destination point of the fourth day is to reach Bagarchhap from Tal. After crossing Marysangdi River, you will find the stairway. At the distance of 1800m from Tal, you will find a small and beautiful village. The village so very much influenced by Tibetan culture. People of that village are so homely and welcoming. Bagarchhap is situated at an altitude of 2160m. After a while of walking, you will reach Bagarchhap; it is the typical flat-roofed.

Day 5: Trek to Chame
Day five of our trip begins toward the chame this day. The trial is filled with uneven rocky climbs to Tyanja at 2360m. Chame is the headquarter of the Manang district, so all the facilities would be there. You might take a short break to enjoy the magnificent view of Annapurna II and LamjumgHimal. The Marshyangdi River will be flowing right along with you. There is a beautiful forest full of flora and fauna near the river to Kopar.

Day 6: Trek from Chame to Pisang (3115m)
Duration: 4-5 hours
Have an early morning breakfast. Your journey will start from Chame, and after walking for at least an hour, uphill, You will reach DhukuriPokhari at an altitude of 3060m. It is beautiful around there. Crossing the right side of the river and passing through the dense alpine forest, you will reach a small village. After resting there for a while, you will move toward the upper Pisang, which is surrounded by Annapurna and Pisang peak. The best part is walking will be a lot easier this day.

Day 7: Trek from Pisang to Manang
As usual, you will be continuing your journey. We will be heading towards the beautiful valley of Manang. Manang is 22km far from upper Pisang. There will be an option for you to choose the route from Pisangthat is either from North or South. The northern way passes from Ghyaru with more climbing, but you can enjoy the magnificent view of the snow Peak Mountains. Whereas the southern routes pass from beautiful houses with less climbing than the northern way. Both the ways meet at Mungji. Enjoying the gorgeous view of the mountain peaks and landscape. You can finally reach to Manang valley through Bryanga.

Day 8: Acclimation day at Manang
Today will be one of the exciting days of your Thorong la pass journey. You will be exploring the Manang valley. Manang is also known as the hidden treasure of Nepal. It has a splendid view of mountains like Gangapurna, Tilicho, Kangaru, Pisang, Chulu range, and Thorong peak. There is a place called “Tengi,” which is recognized as the old Manang Locality. Ice Lake and Tilicho are other destinations of people after visiting Manang valley. Manang valley is situated at the altitude of 3500m above the sea level. Manang museum is another major attraction and must visitable to place in Manang valley.

Day 9: Trek from Manang valley to Yak Kharka
Total Distance: 4350m
Duration: 3.5 hrs
The long journey continues, and this day, your trek would be from Manang valley to Yak Kharka. Climbing up to the ladder along the north of Marshyandi valley passes you to Yak pastures, farming lands, and beautiful villages. Observe the Tibetan Plateau there. After passing the two small settlements called TankiManang and Ghunsa, you will finally reach Yak Kharka. Have lunch at Yak Kharka, and after that, you on the hilltop for acclimatization.

Day 10: Yak Kharka trek to Thorong Phedi

Distance: 4450m
Total Duration: 4.30 hours
The trekking trail from Yak Kharka would lead you to Letder that brings you to a few tea houses or guest house. You can have some tea/coffee there while enjoying the pristine landscapes.
After then, a few hour’s walks would take you to Phedi crossing the ThorongKhola. 1-hour step from Phedi, you can go to High camp.

Day 11: Trekking to Muktinath
This day counts as the hardest day to cross the Thorong La pass. It takes approximately 4 to 5 hrs to reach the mountain. Being there makes you feel like walking on the top of the hill. You can see many Buddhist flags and a small board at Thorong Top. The trails then go gradually down. You must carry a trekking poll to avoid the problem of knee hurting. Finally, after 3-5 hrs walk would take you to Muktinath side base camp. Visit Muktinath there. The actual meaning of Muktinath is the name of the Hindu God.

Day 12: Trekking to Jomsom (2730m)
Duration: 5 hours trekking
This day you will be heading along the little steep trail, from Muktinath till Kagbeni. The dry climate and desert resembling landscapes are fascinating to look at. You can see the paths full of ancient caves. Traveling to the descending trails, from Jarkot gives you two options: one from Jomsom and another from Kagbeni. Kagbeni is a beautiful village with decorated houses, narrow valleys, and the green areas lying between the high mountains.

Day 13: Jomsom to Pokhara

The very next day, catch a bus or Jeep for a long 8-10 hours’ drive to reach to Pokhara. Along the way, you can see the Kaligandakiriver in Beni Bazar. After this, you will be crossing Marpha, Kalopani, Ghasa, Tatopani while having a 5-7 hrs drive and reach to Beni Bazar and then Pokhara.
Our guide would transfer you to the hotel in Pokhara. In the evening, stroll around the Lakeside Phokara, World Peace Stupa there.

Day 14: Travel to Kathmandu

This is the last day of the trekking, you catch the Tourist bus, and a scenic drive of 6 hrs would take you to Kathmandu. You can buy some gifts in Kathmandu for your relatives.
Then you would be taken to the International airport for your final Departure.

All in all, the weather and temperatures at the passes and small peaks are more extreme than the other regions of the trek.
