Our story

The year was 2007 and November when Mr. Puru Timalsena’s dream came true as the brand of  Above The Himalaya Trekking officially started. After a few years of guided trek in Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan and enormous training for trekking tours and mountain sickness, our friends inspired past trekkers worldwide to get a big name in the Himalayas. Our team of professionals has extensive experience in making various tours, treks, mountaineering expeditions, and community-based experiences successful in Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan.

Adventures for All Ages

Nepal trekking has no age limits as we have run our trek for children six months to 83-year-old grandparents. For your information, we organized a family trip on special requests for tiny babies. We use local helpers to carry them and take them to the low-altitude trekking areas, and for the older people, we take them to the easy hiking where the roads are easily accessible. Our guests are 75 -80-year-olds making it to the Everest and Annapurna base camp trek. Age has never been an issue.

Man Behind Our Success- Mr. Puru Timalsena

Purushotam Timalsena ( Puru)  has been leading treks, tours, and adventure holidays since 2001 and is one of the most professional persons for Nepal trip planners to the Himalayas. He best specializes in treks and tours throughout Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan, where he was a trekking guide in the past and has extensively traveled to most parts of the country.

Puru has a passion for his own country, Nepal. He has a great love for beautiful nature. He is a free-frank, kind personality and very reliable; he is happy to share his knowledge and incredible experiences with others.

Puru Timalsena initially started as a guide and found that the tourism industry was the perfect business for him. Since 2001, he has successfully led many trekking groups in the Himalayas mountain range. He is proud to say that, until now, he has never failed to guide all his clients to the top of mountain peaks.

He is also involved in many charity and non-profit organizations for social work. He has helped with the library, school building, and Computer education for  Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality. He established The Himalayan Library at Shami Bhanjyang Higher Secondary School. He is the charter president of the Lions Club of Kathmandu tourists and MJf lion, a General Member of Village Tourism Promotion Forum-Nepal, Nepal Mountaineering Association, and Kathmandu Environmental Project ( KEEP). He is Treasurer at TAAN ( Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal) for the 2022-2024.

A percentage of the profit from our treks goes into the community to help with education and improve welfare. Above the Himalayas, Trekking has been deeply involved in the social welfare sector since its establishment. We are doing the trekking business and believe in our responsibility towards society as employers’ actual social contributions are made for the benefit of their employees.

We help communities design homestay programs and introduce new trekking itineraries in the countryside. We focus on helper training, education, capacity building, etc. Therefore, we always work to give something back to the areas where we have been working and are currently supporting schools, orphanage houses, recycling projects, and helping differently-abled people.

We opened The Himalayan Library at Sham Bhanjyang Higher Secondary School in Maidi Village Municipality, 19 km west of Dhading District headquarters and about 108 km west of Kathmandu. The Shami Bhanjyang School is the apex public educational institution among five villages: Maidi, Dhola, Khari, Nalang, and Salang, which is meant to be densely populated in the rural mid-hill area.
