Langtang trek weather & best season

Langtang region trek is beautiful all season and has its glory each season. The weather is pleasant in Autumn and springtime. During the spring season, the trails bloom with different flowers. If you want to do the Langtang region trek in great weather with a clear view, Autumn is the best.

Autumn is the most popular season for trekking in Nepal. The weather is fantastic this season. The days are clear and sunny. At night, it gets cold (5 °C/ 41°F), though. The temperature also ranges between 10°C-20°C (50°F-68°F).

Trekking in Summer/Monsoon is the best option if you want hot weather. You can see that season’s fresh and clean-washed rare flora and fauna. The weather during your summer trek will be hot, with temperatures higher than 30°C (86°F). In July, the average temperature is 12.1°C (53.78°F).

Monsoon also enters Nepal in this season. So, there are many periods of rainfall in the Trek. The weather is hot at this time, but the rains decrease the temperature. The trail will be slippery in this weather. Summer Weather is not that popular to trek in Langtang due to hail. And the scorching sun.

The weather during the winter season, i.e., December to February, is cold. The temperature during the day ranges between 6°C-9°C (42.8°F-48.2°F). It drops below 0°C (32°F) at night. There are episodes of snowfalls and harsh winds. The lowest temperature is -3 °C (26.6°F) in January.

The views are spectacular, and the trail is covered with snow this season. But the cold weather is challenging. Most of the tea houses close down due to a few visitors and difficulty in living conditions. Another best time for the Langtang region trek, which has good weather, is in the spring season.

This season is the second most popular season for the Langtang trek. The days are long and warm in the spring weather. The daytime temperature ranges between 10°C-20°C (50°F-68°F) this season. You will enjoy walking in the warm and sunny weather during the daytime.

Langtang  Region Trek Distance

The total distance of the Langtang region trek route is about 65 kilometers / 40 miles. But the Langtang trek distance differs daily, roughly 12 – 15 kilometers. We will trek through The Bhote Koshi Riverside flowing down from Tibet.

It follows the Langtang River glacier. Furthermore, the distance to Kyanjing Gompa is roughly 25 kilometers. Thus, the final stretch from Kathmandu to Langtang’s start point is 147 each way. In the Langtang region Trek, the hiking starts from Syabrubesi.

After we arrive at Langtang Village, we will visit Kyanjing Gompa and hike up to Tsergori. From here, we will again return to Syabrubeshi to end the hiking. We can finish this hiking distance in 6 days of trekking. The total distance of trekking in Langtang ranges between 60 and 80 kilometers. In contrast, the average walking duration during this Trek is 6-7 hours daily. We will drive to Syabrubesi and back for the trekking.

The challenging Langtang region  trekking route

The Ganja la Pass trek is the most challenging in the Langtang trekking region. It is a descendant of Tibetan origin. They still look like Tibetans. This Trek is a more adventurous and unique route than other trekking in Langtang. The road offers panoramic Himalayan views with beautiful Langtang Valley and Helambu Valley.

The trails go through the alpine forests, rich flora and fauna, and high-altitude pasturelands. We will mostly trek in the Langtang National Park area. The people of this area are Sherpa and Tamang. Their religious practices, languages, and dress are similar to Tibet’s. The trekking has moderate temperate, sub-alpine vegetation and diverse wildlife.

Also, the tour to Tserko Ri (5,000m/16,404ft) offers incredible views of the Langtang Himalaya range. Our highest point that needs to pass is (5122m), which is challenging on the Langtang region trekking route. While you are on the top of the pass, you will find it covered with snowy ice most of the year.

We will get a stunning view of the Langtang Lirung and the snowy summits of the Tibetan border. Langtang Ganja la Pass trek includes the Spectacular mountain views of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Mount Gaurishanker, Ganesh Himal, Langshisa Ri, and Gangchenpo. Also, we can get a closer view of the Yala Peak, and Naya Kanga seems marvelous.

We also may need some technical items: ropes, crampons, and ice axes may be exciting. We will explore the natural splendors. We see lush valleys alive with languor monkeys, tall fir, and rhododendron forests on the trail. The Langtang trekking forests are well known for their wildlife. You can see red pandas, Himalayan black bears, and wild boar.

Hiking up to Tsergori

Tsergo Ri is closer to Kyanjin Gompa, and the route up is straightforward, although a bit of a slog. We will do the day hiking trip here after a rest day at Kyanjing Gompa. Tsergo Ri Peak is in the Langtang Valley trekking Region, which rises 5033 m above sea level.

We tour the magnificent Langtang region trekking. We get the Himalayas views from Tsergo Ri peak and the same from Kyanjin Ri, the Kyanjin RI. It is a 2-hour hiking trip close to Kyanjin Gompa, reaching 4773 m. Furthermore, if you want to go to the summing of Tsergori, it is about 5 hours to the top and 3 hours back to Kyanjin Gompa.

Don’t forget to get the packed Lunch from your tea house at Kyanjin Gompa if you are climbing. We can get a close-up view of Yala Peak, 5,520 m, and Langtang Ri, 7,205 m. Langtang Lirung 7,227 m, Naya Khang 5,844m from Tsergori.

While you do our Langtang Valley trek package, you can hike up to Tergo Ri Peak and Kyanjin Ri. These trekking itineraries are eight days from Kathmandu.

Trek to Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m)

This Trek is another excellent day hike from Kyanjing Gompa in our Langtang region. This place is the viewpoint. It sits above the Kyanjin Gompa village and east of the Langtang Lirung and Kinshung glacier. However, the trail is more climbing uphill and takes about tIt is about 2-3 hours.

The Western path route is more challenging than the eastern path. But it gives breathtaking mountain vista and close sight of the glaciers. The east trail is comparatively more accessible with zigzag ascends. The road is on the sloppy grassy mountains.

While you are on the summit, you feel Waho. You get the magnificent Mountain views of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), Yubra (6,246 m), Changbu (6,251 m), Naya Kanga (5,863 m), Kinshung (6,781 m), Dangpache (6,567 m), Shelbachum (6,707 m), Morimoto (6,150 m), Yala Peak (5,700 m) and Tsergo Ri on the north. Also, you can watch the Langtang Lirung and Kinshung glacier together.

Trek to Lamgshisa Kharka (4,285 m)

Compared to other side trips in the Langtang region trek, this is an easier one. We will hike in the mountain valley, surrounded by high snow-capped peaks. We will mostly trek in the flat on the grassy pasture and moraine afar the human residence.

You will often passe seasonal yak pasture in the wilder gorge. You can get a packed lunch and enough water for the day. We will pass the stone trail in the extensive monsoon-washed path. We walk mainly on the then-walking bank of the river with a passing series of stone cairns.

Get the best view of peaks above 6000 m, Langshisa Ri (6,427 m), Ganchenpo (6,387 m), and Morimoto (6,150 m). This path is also the valley for the home of the snow leopard, which regularly spots blue sheep. Around Langshisa, Kharka has moraine and glaciers. It is about a 5-6 hour round trip from Kyanjin Gompa to Langshisa Kharka, then return to Kyanjing Gompa.
