 Thorong La Pass lies in the Annapuran circuit trek and a small pass with an altitude of 5,416m (17,769 ft) from sea level. It lies on the northern side of the Annapurna region. Thorung La Pass Trek is one of the exciting and difficult pass treks in Nepal

Thorong La Pass Trek passes through the beautiful Annapurna circuit route and  Manang village. It is one of the best trekking places for trekkers in Nepal. Khatung Kang and Yakawa Kang are the mountains that form Thorong la pass. Throng La pass is also considered as one of the world’s highest passes.

You will be thrilled to see the beauty of the Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, Dhaulagiri. Also Fishtail, Manaslu, Gangapurna, Tilicho peak as well as Tukuche Peak, and many other mountains. This trek starts from low elevation and slowly gains height. The trail is at a distance of at least 200m from Manang valley. As Thorung is near to Tibet, people use yak for importing salt. The best months to trek to Thorong la pass is May to March and September to November. The route to Thorong la pass goes through the beautiful paddy field, landscape several waterfalls, and huge rock face overhangs. You will also see the subtropical forest along the trail. The Tibetan valley was so beautiful with its hand-carved houses. The Tibetan flag is all over the trekking route.

Manang Village Trek

Manang village is one of the beautiful and stunning places situated in Nepal. It is located at an elevation of 3519 m above sea level and surrounded by Gorkha and Lamjung in the east and Mustang village and Lamjung in the west.

Manang village is known as the hidden treasure of Nepal. Undoubtedly, famous for its uniqueness, this village has become a famous tourist destination. Although Manang lies far from the capital of the nation, all the facilities are available here. Yaks are very remarkable creatures here. The main occupation of the local people of Manang is agriculture and yak farming. The northern part of Manang is all about tradition and culture.

Apart from this, villagers are also benefited by the trial of Manang linked with the Annapurna circuit and Muktinath. Manang village is divided into two parts the upper village and the lower village. The upper village of Manang is rich in medicinal herbs. The main herbs found are Panchamle and yarchagumba.

The houses of Manang valley are carved with Tibetan culture with flags of their prayers. There was a campaign in 2009 conducted by the villagers with the motive of the development of Manang village for tourism and the mountaineers. And since then many development activities are done for tourism, protection of the tradition and educational sector as well. They also built the Manang museum, which shows the religion and culture of local people with the local lifestyle of the villagers.

Ice Lake Manang is one of the most beautiful places in Nepal. It is khico tal in Nepal. Ice lake Manang is a place with a magnificent view of mountains such as Manaslu region mountains, Annapurna second, Annapurna fourth, Annapurna third, Gangapurna, Tare Kang, Khansari Kang, Tilicho, Chulu east and Far the East as well as Pisang peak. All those snowcapped mountains are beautiful, and, seeing all of them at once and so closely is breathtaking. You will feel like those mountains right next to you close to your heart. Mountains surround the ice lake on all of its sides, and looked wherever looked we saw mountains some small unknown mountains.

The stupa on the ice lake just in front of Annapurna Mountain shows the cultural values. Mystical energy is what you feel because of that stupa. It is a beautiful and peaceful environment with nature blessings. All of your tiredness will be driven away after observing the eye-catching mountains. When we visited there, the fatigue ours caused by the 6-hour walk all vanished when we had the first look at the mountains.

Thorong la pass trek itinerary

Here is the brief itinerary of your trip to Thorong La Pass Trek. This trip will probably be one of the best treks you have done in your entire life. Here is the list of things that you will be doing on your trip.

Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu

As your trip starts from Kathmandu, you will have to reach Kathmandu first. You will be staying at the hotel in Kathmandu. After taking some rest, you can roam around the famous streets of Kathmandu, such as Thamel, IndraChowk. As this city is rich in ancient culture, you may want to go to some cultural places too. Visiting Pashupatinath and Bouddhanath will be the best option if you have an additional day.

Have a typical Nepali dinner at night and overnight in a deluxe hotel.

Day 2: Kathmandu to Besi Sahar
Total Distance: 200KM,
Trekking Duration: 4-5 hours by tourist bus
Besi Sahar is located at an altitude of 1422m above sea level and a distance of 15km away from Kathmandu. It takes at least 4 hours to reach Besisahar from Kathmandu. You will find the checkpoint at Besisahar, where you have to show the permit. Afterward walking 2km from Besisahar, you will reach Bulbule at Ghermu. There is also a small beautiful village. The village is full of greenery with a mesmerizing view of the mountain, terrace farming, and the view of breathtaking waterfalls.
Enjoy the day and overnight at Lodges at Ghermu.

Day 3: Trek from Ghermu to Tal

The next day of the Thorong la pass starts from Ghermu to Tal, which is situated at the altitude of 1633m. After walking for 6 hours, you will reach Tal. You will have a fantastic hike on the beautiful landscape through the Jagat village. From the Tal, you will walk to the trail along DudhKholariver. After having some ascends, you will reach Tal, which is also called the first village of Manang. The scenery of the mountains on the way to Tal is a bizarre formation supported by the river at the bottom.

Day 4: Trip from Tal to Bagarchhap
The destination point of the fourth day is to reach Bagarchhap from Tal. After crossing the Marysangdi River, you will find the stairway. At the distance of 1800m from Tal, you will find a small and beautiful village. The village so very much influenced by Tibetan culture. The people of that village are so homely and welcoming. Bagarchhap is situated at an altitude of 2160m. After a while of walking, you will reach Bagarchhap; it is the typical flat-roofed.

Day 5: Trek to Chame

Day five of our trip begins toward the Chame this day. The trial is filled with uneven rocky climbs to Tyanja at 2360m. Chame is the headquarter of the Manang district, so all the facilities would be there. You might take a short break to enjoy the magnificent view of Annapurna II and LamjumgHimal. The Marshyangdi River will be flowing right along with you. There is a beautiful forest full of flora and fauna near the river to Kopar.

Day 6: Trek from Chame to Pisang (3115m)
Duration: 4-5 hours
Have an early morning breakfast. Your journey will start from Chame, and after walking for at least an hour, uphill, You will reach DhukuriPokhari at an altitude of 3060m. It is beautiful around there. Crossing the right side of the river and passing through the dense alpine forest, you will reach a small village. After resting there for a while, you will move toward the upper Pisang, which is surrounded by Annapurna and Pisang peak. The best part is walking will be a lot easier this day.

Day 7: Trek from Pisang to Manang

As usual, you will be continuing your Thorong la pass journey. We will be heading towards the beautiful valley of Manang. Manang is 22km far from upper Pisang. There will be an option for you to choose the route from Pisangthat is either from North or South. The northern way passes from Ghyaru with more climbing, but you can enjoy the magnificent view of the snow Peak Mountains. Whereas the southern routes pass from beautiful houses with less climbing than the northern way. Both the ways meet at Mungji. Enjoying the gorgeous view of the mountain peaks and landscape. You can finally reach to Manang valley through Bryanga.

Day 8: Acclimation day at Manang
Today will be one of the exciting days of your Thorong la pass journey. You will be exploring the Manang valley. Manang is also known as the hidden treasure of Nepal. It has a splendid view of mountains like Gangapurna, Tilicho, Kangaru, Pisang, Chulu range, and Thorong peak. There is a place called “Tengi,” which is recognized as the old Manang Locality. Ice Lake and Tilicho are other destinations for people after visiting Manang valley. Manang valley is situated at an altitude of 3500m above sea level. Manang museum is another major attraction and must visitable to place in Manang valley.

Day 9: Trek from Manang valley to Yak Kharka

Total Distance: 4350m
Duration: 3.5 hrs
The long journey continues of our  Thorong La pass and this day, your trek would be from Manang valley to Yak Kharka. Climbing up to the ladder along the north of Marshyandi valley passes you to Yak pastures, farming lands, and beautiful villages. Observe the Tibetan Plateau there. After passing the two small settlements called TankiManang and Ghunsa, you will finally reach Yak Kharka. Have lunch at Yak Kharka, and after that, you on the hilltop for acclimatization.

Day 10: Yak Kharka trek to Thorong Phedi

Distance: 4450m
Total Duration: 4.30 hours
The trekking trail of  Thorong La Pass from Yak Kharka would lead you to Letder which brings you to a few tea houses or guest houses. You can have some tea/coffee there while enjoying the pristine landscapes.
After then, a few hour’s walks would take you to Phedi crossing the ThorongKhola. 1-hour step from Phedi, you can go to High camp.

Day 11: Trekking to Muktinath

This day counts as the hardest day to cross the Thorong La pass. It takes approximately 4 to 5 hrs to reach the mountain. Being there makes you feel like walking on the top of the hill. You can see many Buddhist flags and a small board at Thorong Top. The trails then go gradually down. You must carry a trekking pole to avoid the problem of knee hurting. Finally, after a 3-5 hrs walk would take you to Muktinath side base camp. Visit Muktinath there. The actual meaning of Muktinath is the name of the Hindu God.

Day 12: Trekking to Jomsom (2730m)
Duration: 5 hours trekking
This day of Thorong la pass will be heading along the little steep trail, from Muktinath till Kagbeni. The dry climate and desert resembling landscapes are fascinating to look at. You can see the paths full of ancient caves. Traveling to the descending trails, from Jarkot gives you two options: one from Jomsom and another from Kagbeni. Kagbeni is a beautiful village with decorated houses, narrow valleys, and green areas lying between the high mountains.

Day 13: Jomsom to Pokhara

The very next day, catch a bus or Jeep for a long 8-10 hours’ drive to reach Pokhara. Along the way, you can see the Kaligandakiriver in Beni Bazar. After this, you will be crossing Marpha, Kalopani, Ghasa, Tatopani while having a 5-7 hrs drive and reach Beni Bazar and then Pokhara.
Our guide would transfer you to the hotel in Pokhara. In the evening, stroll around the Lakeside Phokara, World Peace Stupa there.

Day 14: Travel to Kathmandu

This is the last day of the Thorung La pass trekking, you catch the Tourist bus, and a scenic drive of 6 hrs would take you to Kathmandu. You can buy some gifts in Kathmandu for your relatives.
Then you would be taken to the International airport for your final Departure.

Visit Muktinath after Throng la pass trek

Muktinath Tour in Nepal is one of the most visited tourist destinations. These villages lying at an altitude of 3710 meters from sea level and are also known as the highest temple in the world. Jomsom Muktinath Trek

This is usually known as Jomson Trek. Jomsom the Himalayan town lying at an altitude of 2700m in the Mustang District and is also famous with the name Dzong-Sampa. The trekking trail goes through the Valley of Kali Gandaki River to the Pilgrimage site of Muktinath. It is a part of the Best Annapurna Round  Trek and prevails as one of the most admired and classic pilgrimage tour.

Jomsom Muktinath trek gets us to see the incredible Himalayas, stunning landscapes, Kali Gandaki valley (the private gorge inside the globe). The landscapes and their surroundings alongside the Jomsom – Muktinath trek are breathtaking. The trekking trails start from thick forests of brilliant red rhododendrons to rocky cliffs and the barren region of Mustang.

Jomsom Muktinath mostly goes on the riverbank of the famous Kali Gandaki River. During the winter, the river is practically dry, but in the summer monsoon, it fills with rainwater and melting snow.  This river is following between the Annapurna mountain and on the other aspect is Dhaulagiri.
