Geography

Geographically Tibet can be divided into three parts; the East, the South, and the North.  When we go to the Eastern part of Tibet it has the forest region which occupies around 25% of Tibet. The Southern part is open grassland occupying almost half of Tibet. They have agricultural regions in the Central and Southen regions. Tibet as well as containing all the major cities Lhasa, Gyantse, Shigatse, Gyatsa, and Tsedang. This area also considers the cultural center of Tibet and Buddhism.

Climate

You can do the tour from mid-July through to the end of September is the best period.

The temperature varies sharply from the south grassland to the north plateau. The south is warm and rainy. The most rain falls from May to September. It is warm from June to August. The coldest months are from December to February and crossing over the passes becomes almost impossible.

During this package, the Hotels/guesthouses have basic facilities. Even a hotel in Lhasa may not meet your expectation. We always try to provide our clients with a twin room but it may not always be possible. Sometimes, because of weather factor or road condition, we may not be able to bring you to the hotel of our contract or rooms may be already sold out due to delayed arrival and we may have to request you to adjust to whatever accommodation available at that moment. In Lhasa, Gyantse, and Xigatse, you can expect a twin room with an attached toilet/shower but in other places; you will have to adjust with common restroom facilities.

Transportation

From Kathmandu, the Tibet tour starts by a van/coach to Kodari (Tibet border 116 km). Our guide is with you until the Tibet border onwards.  Tibetan crews will drive you all the way to Lhasa. In the event of landslides or road blockade for any reason, you need a service of a porter to carry your luggage. you can hire another means of transport between the two landslides or for an onward journey. You need to spend some nominal amount of money. During the change of vehicle at the border. We are requesting you to help yourself with your luggage.

Travel to Tibet from Nepal

the best and easy way to travel to Tibet from Nepal is by taking a direct flight to Lhasa.  from Kathmandu, Nepal, by Air China or Sichuan Airlines every day. Airplanes take off around noon and need around 1:30 hours to cover the distance. The price for a flight ticket depends on the season and ranges between $300 and $500 for one way. So the average price is somewhat less than $400. Due to the time difference between Lhasa and Kathmandu although it is just a 1-hour flight you will land at the airport of the Tibetan capital between 3 pm and 4 pm. Another popular way is traveling by road and it is good also for altitude sickness. The friendship highway and route of Zhangmu and Nyalam is not operating these days so we take a route from Kodari.

Tour Guide

Tibetan guides are reported to have limited English. In the Tibet tour may not expect a fluent explanation about culture and religion or any other academic topics. He will serve more as a geographical guide and will be responsible for dealing with bureaucracies on the way. However, we will try our best to assign you the best guide available though.

Tibet Visa information

Traveling to Tibet you need from Nepal are required to apply for both of China Group Tourist Visa and Tibet Visa (also named Tibet travel permit). For both travel documents, individual travelers can only get them through a local travel agency and we will arrange it for you. For the processing of China Group, Visa takes at least 3 working days, Thus we advise you to arrive in Kathmandu earlier.

While for Tibet Permit, We need to start preparing at least 20 days before you for Nepal. All you need to do is emailing the photo of your passport information to us.

If you have any Chinese visa in your passport when we apply for a China Group Visa, the previous Chinese visa will become invalid. If you have, you can take it and use it to fly from Kathmandu to Chengdu and later get Tibet Permit for Tibet entry. We will arrange your Tibet visa and travel permit for your Tibet tour.
