Most Asked Questions by Travellers
General
Yes. The Nepal Jungle Safari tour is an easy-going family-friendly tour, involving walks, rugged off-road vehicles, and lodge accommodations, which can accommodate kids and senior tourists.
You should expect to find rhinos, elephants, deer, monkeys, crocodiles, and birds.
No. All accommodations are lodges or tented camps with beds and hot showers included. You need only your clothing.
It includes two best parks (Chitwan and Bardia) to experience different wildlife habitats, and Kathmandu cultural sites, and more than a one-park tour.

Yes, Above The Himalaya can customize dates. The itinerary is fixed per departure, but tours run year-round in the dry season.
Preparation & Fitness
Moderate. Short flat walks and jeep rides, no trekking or altitude. A basic fitness level is enough.
Lightweight cotton clothing, a hat, sturdy shoes, insect repellent, sunscreen, and binoculars are essential. Include rain gear and layers if traveling in shoulder seasons.
In dry seasons (Oct–Nov, Mar–Apr) it’s generally dry. During monsoon (Jun–Sep), trails can be muddy with leeches; we recommend gaiters or repellant then.
Yes, children (around age 6+) can join. Activities are low-intensity, and guides keep children safe on jeep and canoe trips.
No. Kathmandu (1,400m) is the highest point and therefore, this is not a problem in this tour.
Permits
Yes. The tour includes park entry fees and Chitwan and Bardia permits. There is no additional payment at the park.
No. Your park tickets and passport are included.
This package does not include camping. All nights are in fixed lodges or tent camps with beds.
Insurance and Visa
The majority of foreigners are able to acquire a visa at the Kathmandu airport. No visa (passport or ID is required among Indians). Bring passport-sized pictures and money to pay visa fee.
It is not a legal requirement, but highly advisable. Insurance of medical evacuation and trip cancellation should also be provided especially because of the remote jungles.
CDC suggests Hepatitis A and typhoid vaccines. Malaria risk in Chitwan is very low; bite prevention (nets/repellent) is usually enough.
Guides & Support Staff
Yes. We provide an experienced English-speaking naturalist guide throughout the safari days. Local park guides join on treks in the national parks.
Typically 4–12 travelers per safari. Group sizes can be smaller or combined. Each group has one guide and a driver.
Yes. All guides and resort staff speak English. They will explain wildlife facts, organize activities, and communicate logistics.
Porters are generally not used in these parks. Luggage is handled at hotels and safari lodges by lodge staff. You carry your daypack during hikes.
Private guide services can be arranged but may incur extra charge. Please request at booking if needed.

Yes, in Kathmandu hotel and main lodges there is Wi-Fi. In jungle lodges, Wi-Fi (if any) is very limited, mostly in common areas. Don’t rely on it for streaming.

Weather & Seasons
? June through September is the monsoon season (heavy rains). During this time safaris continue but some activities (long drives, walking) may be limited by weather.
Nights in the jungle (Dec-Jan) can dip to around 10–15°C; Kathmandu nights can be near 0°C. Days are warm (20–25°C). Bring a jacket for winter evenings.
? Light rains usually do not cancel safaris, but heavy monsoon rains could delay jeep rides or river tours. Guides will change schedules to ensure your safety.
Yes. Many waterfowl migrate to Nepal during winter (Dec–Feb). Parks will have extra bird variety in those months.
Health & Safety
Malaria risk in Chitwan/Bardia is very low. The CDC does not require antimalarial drugs for these areas, but advises mosquito prevention measures (repellent, nets).
Current routine immunizations are also recommended, as well as Hepatitis A and typhoid, as directed by CDC. Consult your doctor before travel.
? None are aggressive if respected. Mosquitoes are present (dengue fever exists), so use repellent. Snakes and scorpions are rare. Wildlife is best viewed from distance.
Yes, Nepal is generally very safe for tourists. Use common travel caution (secure belongings). The safari areas are remote but patrols and guides ensure safety.
Packing & Gear
Daypack, waterproof jacket, binoculars, camera with extra batteries/memory cards, headlamp/flashlight, water bottle, and personal meds.
Earth tones (khaki, green, brown) are best. Avoid bright red/white which may disturb animals. Light-colored clothing shows ticks easily if concerned.
Comfortable walking shoes are fine on the flat trails. Closed sneakers or lightweight hikers are recommended over sandals.
Yes, at lodges (few hours each evening). Bring a universal adapter. Power banks are very useful for jungle days.

Yes, the main highways are paved and regularly serviced. Road conditions are good except during heavy monsoon. Drivers are experienced. Seatbelts are provided.
Internal flights can be delayed by weather (fog, storms). If a delay happens, schedules will adjust (e.g. we may drive). Flexible tickets may help.
Domestic flights typically allow 15 kg per person plus 5 kg hand luggage. Anything over may incur a small fee. Vehicles can carry extra bags on drives.
Jungle travel is always by day. On Day 6 and 8, if arriving late, our transfer is only a 15–30 min drive in Kathmandu; otherwise, all long drives happen in daylight for safety.
